How Perplexity Comet Could Reduce Your Daily Screen-Based Work

Okay, so a month ago, Perplexity launched Comet for everyone. Before that it was invite-only, and there were hell of talks everywhere saying it would be "the end of Chrome." I honestly didn't buy it. I'd been using Chrome for ten years and thought, how different can a browser be?

When I finally got access last month, it took me just one day to realize this thing works on another level. After using Comet for a month this is my review using basic examples on how it is different from other AI apps or browsers.

What's the difference?

How is Comet different from other AI apps?

Imagine you are writing an email (free version). Normally, you copy your message, open ChatGPT or any AI app, paste it, prompt and get the response, copy it again, and paste it back into your mail. So many steps, right?

With Comet, you just tell it directly, while you're on the mail website itself to "reply to it politely" or "summarize this." Boom, done. No tab-switching, no copy-pasting. It's just like having a Gemini Paid Version for free.

Just another basic example to show how even very basic but time consuming tasks are automated. Now, say you're on Spotify and want to add "Top 100 2010s Synthwave songs" to your playlist. Normally, on Chrome or your app, you'd search those songs on Google, make a list of them, and manually add them. With Comet, you just say it and it does the whole thing automatically.

Or suppose you've posted dozens of old photos on Instagram and want to remove a few. Instead of scrolling endlessly, you can just say, "Remove my old posts from June 2021 to September 2021," and it handles it.

Suppose you want to find a UX designer job on LinkedIn in California that pays at least $50K per year, was posted within the last week, is still actively hiring, and includes certain skills (Y) but excludes others (X). You can go beyond LinkedIn's default filters. You don't need to learn web scraping or SQL. Just use simple language, and it gets the job done.

Think about your workplace too. If you're on Google Sheets and you need a complex formula, no more dragging and testing, Just ask Comet, and it writes and applies the formula right where you're working, and tests the results by itself on your command. Same goes for summarizing data, analyzing text, or even finding missing values.

A couple more real-life ways it helps: While reading an article, you can tell Comet to highlight the main points right on the page. When filling long online forms, you can ask it to auto-complete repetitive details for you, just like chrome, but supports even more input fields.

Now, yes Chrome and a few AI extensions can technically do similar things, but they usually need multiple clicks, popups, or tab switches Or paid subscription. Comet just stays with you on the same page and listens naturally. If you haven't tried Comet ☄️ yet, it's your time to make it yours, now.
